                                                    Painting Rags:
This series came out of a need to do something with a big pile of painting rags I had in my studio from my previous body of work. My paintings have evolved in a way where glazing is a big part of my practice. I apply thin washes of paint with a brush and then take it away with a rag, this results in lots of painting rags in a wide range of colours and unusual marks. These precious small pieces of fabric looked to me like individual paintings so I needed to find a way to incorporate them into my work. I usually start with the rags, cut them into shapes and then work out the composition by placing them in different ways. From there I decide the background colour, and then start to make the composition permanent by attaching the fabrics to the canvas.
