Overview

Rose is inspired predominantly by the Natural World, particularly the smaller things which can go unnoticed or be disregarded by others. Through the medium of painting and drawing, she creates delicate, yet expressive pieces which aim to provoke in an understated way with empathy and intrigue.

At first glance it’s not obvious what we are looking at…abstracted land…maps… illustration…these are highly detailed observations of an aspect of nature that is often disregarded. When highlighted in this way we are able to view them in a fresh context.

Rose celebrates the intimate and ornamental world of lichen, magnifying the organic structures revealing delicate colour and definition.  Her insect observations touch on a Victorian macabre with a subtle reference to human debris and the fragility of nature
