Works
Overview

Catherine works mainly in acrylics, incorporating mixed media such as chalk, oil pastels, ink and charcoal.  She uses a range of tools, from brushes and palette knives to rollers and bamboo skewers, to provide contrast and bring vitality to her work.  She enjoys adding depth to her paintings with both complementary and unexpected colour and mark-making combinations, so her work can be further enjoyed close up as well as making an impact from a distance.

Catherine was Surrey Artist of the Year 2018.

Biography

Catherine takes inspiration from landscapes and nature – from close to her home in Surrey, to the Dorset and Cornwall coast and as far as the Caribbean.

She is particularly drawn to colour, light and contrast and tries to produce paintings with energy, freedom and movement.  She strives to capture something of the essence of a ‘moment in time’, the atmosphere and experience of a certain place.  Her paintings encompass the energy of nature alongside that of our own presence in the landscape: the marks we make (both by our presence and through manmade structures/objects), the balance of landscape and humans, and how we sit alongside each other, blend into each other, jar against each other.
