Overview

Marie Robinson has a continuing engagement with thematic collections and is inspired by the history and associations inherent in ordinary objects and materials. Her subjects are commonplace items particularly from the domestic environment. Some she chooses because they hold a personal significance, others she collects from jumble sales or charity shops which have a history unknown to the artist.

Biography

Marie Robinson has a continuing engagement with thematic collections and is inspired by the history and associations inherent in ordinary objects and materials. Her subjects are commonplace items particularly from the domestic environment. Some she chooses because they hold a personal significance, others she collects from jumble sales or charity shops which have a history unknown to the artist. Robinson is interested in the arrangement, combination and repetition of these familiar items and the narrative, atmosphere or resonances which can be evoked by the considered choices of subject and composition. Robinson particularly enjoys using groups of objects which have a common purpose but a variety of design and character and she plays on their anthropomorphic qualities. She also enjoys using collections of natural found objects she collects on daily walks.
