Overview

Using minimalist compositions and predominantly grey tones, Swart explores themes of impermanence, nostalgia and the passage of time capturing the fragile beauty of what remains.

Biography

Blackie Swart serves as the creative pseudonym for British artist Stuart Wilson. Dividing his time between Oxford, England, and Mallorca, Swart's artistic journey has spanned approximately 15 years, during which time he has continuously refined his artistic practice.

Swart's work explores themes of impermanence, nostalgia, the passage of time, and the slow fading of what once was. Drawn to forgotten places, abandoned spaces, and discarded memories, Swart captures the fragile beauty of what remains. Using minimalist compositions and predominantly grey tones, Swart creates a tension between structure and disintegration. Geometric forms suggest order and stability, yet their gradual breakdown and disruption hint at fragility, erosion, and inevitable change. Subtle marks, weathered surfaces, and deteriorating forms evoke a sense of loss and the delicate balance between presence and absence, permanence and transience.

Swart's work is held in private collections across Europe, Africa and the USA.
