My painting practice is largely concerned with the formal elements of my chosen medium: form, colour and texture. I particularly enjoy experimenting with textural effects in my surfaces.
The depiction of landscape and architecture in art, cinema and television, provides the impetus and inspiration for my work. My work is currently reflecting my interest in British landscape painters such as Nash, Ravilious, Hitchens and Piper, amongst others.
These found images often establish a starting point for a piece. However, paint is a responsive medium and the completed painting may deviate considerably from the original source, occasionally tending toward abstraction.
For me, an open-ended and free approach is what makes painting such an exciting and compelling creative project.
