New work March 2022 – Spring flowers
After the short dark days of winter I love seeing the spring flowers appear and wanted to capture something of their bright cheerfulness. I normally work on a background toned with umber but experimented a little with these by working onto a white background using brush pens to draw out my composition rather than paint. I also experimented with blocks of colour to break up the area around the flowers and containers. And as aways with flowers I needed to work quickly, painting in the initial layers of the flowers first – even so I still went through three bunches of daffs!
